Young writers often believe strong writing arrives fully formed. When the first draft feels imperfect, they assume the idea is weak or that they are not writers.
Coaching should make the process visible. Ideas are collected, shaped, tested, revised, and refined. Revision is not punishment; it is where the writer gains control.
Structure gives creativity somewhere to stand. A clear beginning, tension, development, and resolution can free a student to make more imaginative choices.
The goal is not to make the writing sound like the coach. It is to help the student recognize and strengthen an authentic voice.
